Summer readings

Perinatal Health Indicators

We have updated the perinatal health indicators in the Brussels Region until 2011 and took the opportunity to make some improvements. For each indicator, you now have three tabs:

- Two tabs showing the name of the indicator and containing key figures, respectively from 2008 to 2011 and from 1998 to 2007
- A Metadata tab containing the characteristics of the indicator and its conditions of use.

The selection of indicators posted covers the number of births and their geographical distribution, fetal and infant mortality, morbidity, multiculturalism and social inequalities Brussels births.

Defining Birth

In the "Observatory notes" collection we just released the second note about the definition of birth. Indeed in Belgium several statistical and legislative definitions of birth are used simultaneously. However, the definition chosen affects the results of perinatal indicators including the rate of fetal and infant mortality. After a review of existing definitions and their impact on Brussels indicators, we make proposals on the practices to be adopted during analyzes and publications.

Defining birth - From the definition of a birth and its impact on perinatal indicators in the Brussels Region.
