3rd periodic Belgian report concerning the International Convention on Children’s Rights

The National Committee for Children’s Rights approved Belgium’s third report and declared 20 November “National Child Day”.

On Tuesday 24 June 2008, the National Committee for Children’s Rights approved the third report on the application in Belgium of the United Nations Convention on Children’s Rights.

The report summarises five years (2002–2007) of the application of children’s rights in Belgium. It addresses children’s rights, including the prohibition of any discrimination, civil rights, the right to family life or substitute protection, health and well-being, education, leisure activities, as well as special protective measures for, among others, foreign minors, young people under the protection of youth services, victims of child abuse and child soldiers.

t will be submitted by the Minister for Foreign Affairs to the Secretary General of the United Nations to be examined by the Committee for Children’s Rights.
